MSNBC has cut ties with weekend host Tiffany Cross as Variety reported that the cable news network informed her production staff of the decision on Friday.
Cross, who hosts the weekend show “Cross Connection,” is leaving NBCUniversal after MSNBC decided not to renew Cross’ contract after two years, according to one of these people, and cut ties with her immediately.
No permanent host will be assigned to the weekend slot as of the reporting. Instead, a rotating group of anchors will lead her weekend hours until a replacement is found; meanwhile, the production staff designated to her program are likely to stay in place.
Variety adds that there has been speculation that Cross’ relationship with MSNBC was becoming frayed, leading to the decision not to renew her contract.
Executives at the network are growing concerned about the anchor’s willingness to address comments made by cable-news hosts on other networks, such as Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.
The two parties didn’t provide a comment in the reporting done by Variety.
