The reaction continues to pour in after the Indianapolis Colts fired head coach Frank Reich and hired ESPN NFL analyst and former Colt Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach. Tuesday, ESPN Radio host Mike Greenberg and analyst Domonique Foxworth both heaped praise on Saturday while also noting the interesting nature behind his hiring.
“Two things can be true at the same time: We love the man and can wish nothing but the best for him, while also understanding there are some issues with this situation,” Greenberg said.
“I think that he’s capable and I’m rooting for him, and I think it’s possible that he could succeed — whatever success is in this current situation,” Domonique Foxworth added. “But I also think it’s our responsibility to point out how unusual this is and how unfair it may feel to all the coaches in football, and particularly the coaches in that building.”
Greenberg later added he can separate Jeff Saturday his friend and colleague, and Jeff Saturday the new NFL head coach. He also said he can understand the “out of the box thinking” the Indianapolis Colts are trying by adding the ESPN NFL analyst as its head coach.
