The potential death of Twitter has been a hot topic in sports media circles as many personalities grapple with the possibility of its demise. On 670 The Score, Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes discussed what the social media platform has meant to them.
“There are people who believe that what Twitter has done to level the playing field for some marginalized communities — for people of color, people who have needed it to find a voice — part of the goal of destroying it is to take that away,” said Bernstein. “That that was an absolute forethought in this whole thing. To take away the voice of the voiceless.”
“To take away the voice and take away the connectivity of it,” Laurence Holmes added. “You’re meeting with, talking with, and discussing ideas with people you probably — especially considering the pandemic — never met in real life.”
“It helped me learn others perspective on things I would have otherwise never been exposed to,” replied Bernstein.
“For sure,” Holmes agreed. “It’s very strange now to meet people in real life — or see them in real life — when you’ve had a relationship with them on Twitter.”
