Conservative radio host Howie Carr was a guest on The Mark Simone Show on 710 WOR Thursday, and the pair discussed the ongoing layoffs at CNN and whether or not a neutral news network can flourish in 2022.
“Do we have a list yet of folks at CNN who have been laid off? That’s what I’m waiting for,” Carr said.
“No. We don’t like to see anyone lose their jobs, but in this case, we’ll make an exception,” Simone countered.
After Simone asked Carr on guesses of who they’d get rid of, Carr had one voice in particular.
“They’re saying some places that none of the high profile people will be whacked. Does Jim Acosta still count as high profile? I don’t think so. He might as well be in the Witness Protection Program with that Saturday night show he’s got.”
Simone added 3,700 people were laid off at Twitter and hasn’t seen a difference in the platform, and asked “what the hell were all those people doing?”
Carr then quoted longtime baseball owner Bill Veeck.
“If we finished last with you, we can finish in last without you. I think Elon Musk. CNN feels the same — obiviously — with Chris Licht.”
Simone then asked Carr if a “neutral network” could work.
“No, I don’t think so. I think those days are over. If you want neutral news, you just go to your iPhone and get the latest headlines. Who watches the network newscasts? They claim there’s still 20 million people who watches but I didn’t know there were that many people in nursing homes who couldn’t get out of their chairs or are so senile they can’t remember where they put their remote.”
