Blaze TV Hosts Slam The Washington Post Canceling ‘Shark Week’

The Discovery Channel’s iconic “Shark Week” is under attack by the Washington Post. This week, the paper published an exposé on the educational program, citing a lack of diversity and an overabundance of guys named “Mike.”

On Wednesday, Blaze Media personalities Steve Burguiere aka Stu and Pat Gray discussed the story on “The Glenn Beck Show.”

“In addition to not talking about anything but sharks during Shark Week, they’re not devoting any time to blowfish,” Gray said jokingly.

The article stated that white men named Mike were overrepresented and that researchers spoke disparagingly about sharks.

“This is completely immaterial,” said Burguiere. “Is the coverage good? Do they talk about sharks?”

A tweet from the Washington Post early Tuesday stated that white shark researchers are emphasizing negative messages about the predatory fish.

“The woman doing the study apparently loved sharks as a kid and watched Shark Week religiously and then she did this study that found that lots of the scientists that talk about the sharks are white,” said Gray.

Gray added that the Washington Post exhausted tons of hours researching “Shark Week.” He said reporters scrutinized 32 years of episodes dating back to 1988 and determined that “Shark Week” failed to deliver quality messaging about shark preservation.
