WJR afternoon host Mitch Albom raised nearly $2 million for Detroit charities during a radiothon last week.
The 11th annual Mitch Albom Say Detroit Radiothon set a new record, collecting more than $1.8 million during the 15-hour broadcast hosted by Albom and his partern Ken Brown.
Several celebrity guests appeared during the event, including Tim Allen, Hugh Jackman, Barry Sanders, Jane Pauley, Hank Azaria, Anderson Cooper, and more.
“I am humbled every year at the incredible generosity of our audience and our friends around the country,” Albom said. “Every dollar raised at our 11th annual radiothon will go to making Detroiters’ lives better, and that’s the best gift anyone can give at the holidays. I am so grateful to all the amazing people who made this happen.”
Since its inception in 2012, the Mitch Albom SAY (Super All Year) Detroit Radiothon has raised more than $10 million to help Detroiters experiencing poverty, homelessness, children with medical needs, and students needing financial assistance to attend college.
“I’m not surprised by the outpouring of generosity from our audience,” Cumulus Detroit Vice President and Market Manager Steve Finateri said. “Thanks to Mitch Albom, 100% of the donations go directly to local charities addressing our community’s greatest needs. WJR is so proud to be a part of this annual effort!”
