Shan Shariff: ‘RGIII Provides Entertainment For Better Or Worse’

Robert Griffin III, better known to fans as RGIII, meant to say “bugaboos” on this week’s edition of Monday Night Countdown on ESPN. He accidentally used a different word, one that had the Heisman Trophy winner rushing to social media to apologize the following day.

On Wednesday morning’s edition of Shan & RJ on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Shan Shariff, RJ Choppy and Bobby Belt discussed the incident and concluded that Griffin clearly did not intend to use the racial slur that he did.

“He was trying to say bugaboo,” said Bobby Belt as RJ Choppy tried to explain what RGIII had said without using the actual word.

“Well, this word starts with a different letter,” Choppy replied.

For Choppy, it isn’t hard to buy that this was a slip of the tongue. After all, the word isn’t something even the most ardent racists use with regularity in 2022.

“I have never heard somebody use that word in the last 25 years,” he said.

Shariff noted that Griffin has used words and phrases on TV this year that have raised plenty of eyebrows, including shouting the phrase “there’s an orgy in the endzone” as he provided color commentary for a college football game.

“RGIII has provided some entertainment on television this season, for better or worse,” Shariff said.
