Bowl season is upon us, and part of the way ESPN talks about college football’s postseason is through the lens of the NFL Draft. Thursday morning Todd McShay was on SportsCenter providing some information about what he has heard from teams and scouts and it wasn’t exactly good for Georgia’s Jalen Carter.
“With Carter, there are some character issues, does he get along with everybody, what’s he like to deal with in the locker room, those sorts of issues,” McShay said.
He noted that all the intangibles are undeniable for Carter. That will likely still have him highly drafted, but he has heard plenty of concerns.
Steak Shapiro and the rest of the cast of 92.9 The Game’s The Steakhouse were taken aback by the criticism.
“Boy, does he do a number on him,” Shapiro said of the comments. “He tries to tiptoe around it, but he uses the term ‘questionable character’ two or three different times.”
One common criticism of the lead up to the NFL Draft is the way some players are discussed and what is being reported. What could be disinformation put out by one team to mislead others is treated as fact.
Shapiro and co-host Drew Butler, who is himself a former Georgia Bulldog football player, theorized that Todd McShay could be unfairly comparing Jalen Carter to Jordan Davis. Last year’s first round pick for the Eagles was beloved for his demeanor in the locker room and interactions with the media.
Butler added that he has not talked to anyone that expressed concerns about Carter’s characte.
“I haven’t heard that, and I think I am close to the program.”
Shapiro wonders how much Todd McShay and other draft analysts consider what the prospects they are covering are trying to accomplish. Being beloved probably isn’t any of these players’ primary goal.
“What is he supposed to be?” Shapiro asked of Carter. “Does he want to be getting paid a lot of money and winning championships and going to the Hall of Fame? He’s that kind of talent!”
Todd McShay is a drunk and a liar, ESPN is becoming libel because it hasn’t exposed McShay for the fraud he is and he has always been a draft stock tanker, selling his lies . He’s a lying drunk, and a disgrace to decency in Sports Reporting. And, a real piece of shot.
