Earlier this week, radio host Mike Gallagher asked his audience if he should step down as host of his nationally-syndicated radio program, similarly to the question raised by Twitter owner Elon Musk asking users if he should step aside as the social media platform’s CEO.
“I’m forced to ask you if you think I should step down as host of The Mike Gallagher Show,” Gallagher joked. “It has come to this. I started in 1978 with my first talk radio show. An 18-year-old kid in Ohio. Made my way through the ranks. South Carolina, Albany, New York, New York City.
“Been heard coast-to-coast since 1998, and I am forced to ask you to determine my professional fate. In just a couple of moments, we’ll polish off our poll question: Should Mike Gallagher step down as host of The Mike Gallagher Show? I may or may not abide by your decision.”
However, Gallagher revealed Tuesday that many didn’t realize it was a joke, and clarified that he is not going anywhere.
“I thought I’d have some fun and we posted a poll…of course the whole thing was a joke. It was a goof. I was just playing around,” Gallagher said. “People took it seriously. I got tons of emails last night saying ‘Mike, I can’t believe it. You’re gonna quit, you’re retiring, you’re resigning?’ No, nothing of the sort. It was just having some fun.”
