Last week, conservative pundits — including Glenn Beck — pounced on revelations that CNN’s primetime ratings slumped to a mere 444,000 viewers. The network has undergone several changes since President and CEO Chris Licht took over last May.
According to Breitbart, CNN attracted just 417,000 total day viewers with competing Fox News more than tripling that output.
On Friday, Glenn Beck said the latest numbers signal a change in the way people are getting their news. He said the latest ratings also prove that nobody trusts cable news networks.
“We look to find our news and find our information — no longer from the media — because it’s not trusted,” said Beck. “We just saw the ratings for Fox News. They are now in the demo worse than when we had at CNN Headline News.”
In 2006, Beck hosted a nightly, news commentary show on the network called simply “Glenn Beck“. It aired on the network’s primetime block.
Last year, a Gallup Poll indicated just 7% of Americans had a great deal of trust in the media. Meanwhile, 28% of U.S. adults say they do not have very much confidence and 38% have none in newspapers, TV, and radio.
“(Fox News) are still way ahead of everyone else, but no one is watching cable news except the elderly. I’m out of the demo now. At 54 years old, you’re out of the prime demo that is the money demo.”
Beck reiterated that trust is a huge factor in the decline of interest and viewership in cable news networks.
“We trust people who have gained our trust as individuals. They post on social media or on their own platforms,” he added.
