Minneapolis news/talk station WCCO raised more than $447,000 during its 14th annual radiothon to benefit Second Harvest Heartland.
Last week, the station held a 12-hour radiothon from the Second Harvest location in Brooklyn Park, a northern suburb of Minneapolis.
The station partnered with several notable national and local celebrities, including television chef Andrew Zimmern, former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya, and Minnesota sports figures like former Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph, Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch, and Twins radio announcer Cory Provus.
“Year after year, our fans open up their hearts to those in need,” said Audacy Minneapolis Senior Vice President and Market Manager Jeff Gonsales. “Lives are being impacted in significant ways, and we are incredibly grateful. WCCO’s long-standing partnership with Second Harvest Heartland means so much to us and to so many people who are helped by this community effort.”
“This community is great at showing up for one another, and today’s 14th annual ‘Let’s Kick Hunger Day Radiothon’ was no exception,” said Second Harvest Heartland CEO Allison O’Toole, adding the organization is grateful for WCCO listeners, radiothon callers, and sponsors for their help with the event.
It is the second time in just under four months that WCCO has seen a large radiothon to fight hunger in the Twin Cities. In November of last year, the station raised more than $330,000 for Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities after its 20th annual Hunger Mission Radiothon.
