Bill Simmons Wants Mina Kimes At The Ringer

No one that follows the NFL will be surprised to learn that Mina Kimes will have options when her contract at ESPN expires. Her deal is set to expire soon and one sports media mogul has made it clear that if she wants to leave Bristol, he wants to have a conversation.

“She’s been my number one draft pick for a while,” Bill Simmons told Ben Strauss of The Washington Post.

Some in the media have criticized Kimes with typical “never played the game” comments. Those that have worked with her though sing her praises, calling her a trailblazer and saying that she deserves an even bigger platform than the one she already has at ESPN.

Mina Kimes began her writing career covering the business world. Simmons notes that The Ringer can offer her a platform to dive back into that world or any other, in addition to still covering football. Certainly, The Ringer would offer an ideal platform for writing and podcasting. Strauss speculates that Kimes could create a deal that would allow her to pursue TV opportunities with a different company.

While Kimes has done work for the Los Angeles Rams on preseason TV broadcasts, she has said that calling games full-time isn’t her future. She values her role on NFL Live, which casts her as the most relatable to the average viewer.
