Legendary baseball broadcaster Tim McCarver died Thursday at the age of 81. McCarver was the analyst for 24 World Series’, joining Joe Buck for 18 of them during their tenure together at FOX Sports.
After McCarver’s death, Buck told Barrett Sports Media the former All-Star catcher was a fine teammate during their time working together.
“He was the best teammate a 27-year-old doing the national game of the week and the World Series could have,” Buck told Barrett Sports Media. “A fierce defender if you were in his circle. I’m indebted to him for 18 great years together.”
As Buck mentioned, he ascended to the top spot in FOX’s broadcast booth as a 27-year-old in 1996, announcing the fall classic with McCarver. The duo teamed for the World Series every year from 2000-2013.
During their tenure together, the pair had several historic moments, including the 2000 “Subway Series” between the New York Mets and Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks’ walk-off victory in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, the Boston Red Sox first World Series victory since 1918, and many more.
