The shooting claimed the lives of three people, including Lyons, and critically injured a photographer.

According to eyewitnesses, a man approached the WESH news vehicle and fired shots, hitting two reporters. He then went to a nearby house where he shot a mother and her daughter. TV crews covering the shooting attempted to provide medical assistance to the Spectrum 13 journalists.
Keith Melvin Moses, a 19-year-old, was taken into police custody and charged with first-degree murder.
