Earlier this week, DePaul defeated Seton Hall in the Big East Tournament in wild fashion, with a potential goaltending call being waved off at the buzzer, handing the win to the Blue Demons. 670 The Score host Laurence Holmes marveled at the work of FOX Sports basketball announcers Tim Brando and Bill Raftery.
Brando and Raftery watched several replays of the potentially game-winning play, pointing out specific nuances about the rules and why the goaltending call would be waved off.
The goaltending call being waved off ended a back-and-forth, action-packed second half that saw DePaul trail by five points with 40 seconds remaining.
“My reactions were muted because I was watching it on a plane, but it was fun! The joys have been few and far between. It was just so well done. Brando and Raftery were amazing,” Laurence Holmes said. “They called it like it was a Big East final, and that’s what I wanted!”
“That’s what all these games all this month can feel like with guys who still genuinely love the game like those guys do,” Matt Spiegel added as the two shows on The Score crossed over.
The Big East Tournament was the final assignment of the college basketball season for Brando, but he tweeted he enjoyed the opportunity and environment from Madison Square Garden.
“Today’s Quarterfinals in the Big East we’re the most exciting I’ve ever witnessed,” Brando wrote. “That’s it for me this season and I’ll enjoy watching all my colleagues and former CBS colleagues carry the March Madness all the way to Houston. A big thanks to everyone at College Basketball on FOX. See y’all next year.”
