Boston Celtics television analyst Brian Scalabrine is a regular guest on Jones & Mego on WEEI, and the discussion this week between he and Adam Jones got a bit contentious.
During a discussion about sacrifices teams and players make to win, Scalabrine balked at an opinion Jones presented that those sacrifices aren’t worth it unless you win a championship.
“You’re leaving out a key component in that: Everybody has to make sacrifices to win,” Scalabrine said. “Everybody has to do that.”
When told that there is only one champion and there are 29 teams who failed, Scalabrine pushed back on the statement.
“Oh my gosh. Alright, Man. Wow. Captain Obvious over here,” Scalabrine dismissively said. “People have to make sacrifices to make the playoffs. That’s just how the league goes.
“You are stretching today. I like you. You bring up great points, but once in a while you have to understand the NBA and the league and throw somebody a bone…for the most part, you’re a 90% guy. I like you, but 10% of the time if you’re gonna say those things, you just don’t get the league.”
After the interview concluded, co-host Megan Ottolini joked that 90% was generous, which Jones quipped “He said it, but he doesn’t mean it.”
