Earlier this week, the Illinois Democratic Party filed a complaint against AM 560 The Answer morning host Dan Proft, alleging that he broke state campaign finance laws with his political action committee.
Proft has responded by filing a new campaign finance report, claiming the initial filing had a typo.
In the previous report, Proft’s “People Who Play By The Rules” political action committee showed it spent $18.6 million after raising $17.4 million. Election laws prohibit PACs from having negative balances unless the committee receives a loan, which the committee did not list. The Democratic Party of Illinois claimed the situation was one of Proft’s “most egregious” violations in what it alleged was a long line of misdeeds.
“Mr. Proft is keenly aware of the disclosure requirements found in the (law),” the complaint read. “He has served as the chair and treasurer of several political committees spanning more than a decade and has been the subject of multiple matters before this board. And yet, Mr. Proft appears to have again completely disregarded the (law).”
According to a report from the Chicago Tribune, an amended report from the PAC showed it purchased $300,078.33 of advertising with CBS-2 in Chicago. Previously, that figure was listed as $3,000,078.33.
The initial complaint filed by the Democratic Party was ruled as being filed on “justifiable grounds”, with the state elections board scheduled to hold a hearing on the matter soon.
