Dan Bickley: Al McCoy Deserves Championship Ending

After 51 years behind the microphone for the Phoenix Suns, Al McCoy is retiring at the end of this season. As the Suns enter the playoffs, no one knows when that end may come, but Arizona Sports 98.7 morning hosts Dan Bickley and Vince Marotta have already looked at where McCoy’s tenure could end.

The 89-year-old McCoy was honored and recognized for his contributions to the team at the franchise’s final home game of the season over the weekend, and the two radio hosts marveled at the job he did.

“Al gave a great speech. He’s very at home in that element. It was very warm, and I loved his message. Loved that message,” said Dan Bickley.

“Al stole the stage at halftime with that speech, which he can do,” Vince Marotta said.

The Arizona Sports 98.7 hosts then noted that the current Suns team has as good a chance as any in franchise history to win a title. The team is the #4 seed in the upcoming NBA Western Conference Playoffs, and bolster a star-studded lineup that features the likes of Kevin Durant, DeAndre Ayton, Devin Booker, and Chris Paul.

They noted that the club winning its first NBA championship would be poetic.

“The way this is lining up for the Suns, maybe in position to win a championship,” Bickley noted. “You wanna talk about worth the wait? 55 years for the franchise and 51 years for him?”

“It does seem perfect, doesn’t it? Don’t screw it up, Suns! It’s all lined up!” Bickley jokingly shouted.
