99.9 The Fan is making a change in afternoon drive. Joe Ovies took to Twitter Wednesday to announce that he and partner Joe Giglio had been let go three years after their show, The OG, was launched.
“Today was the last edition of ‘The OG’ and the end of 13.5 years at The Fan,” Ovies wrote. “@giglio_OG and I did some really great stuff in just over 3 years of the show. Thanks for making us part of your routines.”
Giglio came to the station in 2020 from The News Observer in Raleigh. Capital Broadcasting, which owns 99.9 The Fan, had said at the time that the plan was to use him to cover NC State sports for both radio and television.
Ovies had been with Capital Broadcasting since the company acquired 850 The Buzz in 2009 and merged it with 99.9 The Fan. He was initially partnered with Adam Gold. Gold moved to middays when The OG launched.
As for 99.9 The Fan, Ovies told Barrett Sports Media that all he was told was that the station was going in a “new direction.” The new plan for afternoon drive is a “single host show with a producer.” No other details are available at this time.
