Social media has been at the forefront of the news media conversation after Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) chose to make his presidential campaign announcement on Twitter Spaces. Radio host Jesse Kelly is questioning just how important social media is to the average person.
During The Jesse Kelly Show, he argued that social media does not mean as much to the average person as it does to politicians and media figures.
Kelly shared a story about a member of Congress sharing their displeasure with him over an angry comment posted to the legislator’s Instagram account. He questioned why they didn’t simply ignore the comment, before coming to the central point of his argument.
“Social media is important because important people think it’s important. They just do,” Kelly said. “Trump used to live on Twitter. Important people think it’s important.”
Kelly’s comments came after DeSantis made his announcement on Twitter Spaces. The announcement was hindered by technical difficulties. DeSantis himself noted that Twitter offered a smaller audience than other traditional outlets, but viewed the opportunity as too good to pass up.
