Pat McAfee: ‘I Hope Like Hell’ Shannon Sharpe Joins ESPN

News of Shannon Sharpe’s planned departure from FOX Sports was a topic of discussion across sports media on Thursday, and Pat McAfee is excited at the prospect of Sharpe being a free agent.

McAfee said there are plenty of companies out there that are chomping at the bit to bring Shannon in.

“That’s a narrative shifter to replace,” McAfee said on his show. “That’s a potential massive asset to a platform that wants to launch.”

Pat said in his own talks with various networks and companies over the last several months, he’s seen the potential that’s out there and what kind of value a guy like Sharpe could bring.

“There’s a lot of places that are trying to get into the sports media world,” he said. “There’s a lot of places that are trying to launch their thing who have rights to stuff either in the future or are planning on getting rights but a lot of money behind them.”

McAfee, who just announced he signed a deal to bring his daily sports talk show to ESPN, admitted he’s rooting for Shannon to end up at The Worldwide Leader.

“Shannon is gonna be in a really good spot, and I hope like hell he comes to ESPN,” McAfee said. “And when I say come to ESPN, we’re not even at ESPN. But we’re gonna be there, and if Shannon Sharpe is to be there and you start talking about what a day could look like, that’s f–king awesome.”
