Joe Buck Could Return to FOX in Daddy Issues Animated Series

Could Joe Buck be headed back to FOX? The answer is yes, it is possible, but not in the way you might think.

On a recent episode of his daughter’s podcast, Buck revealed that he has sold a pilot to the network for an animated sitcom. The show is called Daddy Issues, and is based on the podcast he does with actor Oliver Hudson.

“I don’t want to say The Simpsons or Family Guy because you have to do something for 20+ years to get there, but it’s that kind of show,” he said on the Causing a Scene podcast. “It’s Oliver and me as the two central figures, I am the son of a legendary football coach as opposed to the son of a legendary broadcaster and he’s the son of a musician, which he is, and we work at a prep school and he is a guidance counselor/music teacher.”

In podcast form, Daddy Issues regularly sees Buck and Hudson talking about navigating the world from the point of view of a father and as a son. The duo have also welcomed a number of famous guests to the show.

Although the pilot script has already been written, that is all that can be announced so far by FOX. Writers and show runners will not be announced until the end of the WGA strike.

Joe Buck called Major League Baseball and NFL games for FOX from 1994 until 2021. During that time, he called the World Series 24 times and the Super Bowl six times. In March of last year, he announced that he was leaving the network to join his long time NFL partner Troy Aikman on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

Now, if FOX bosses like what they see in the Daddy Issues pilot, Buck could return to the network, but in a very different way.

“If they like it, then we’ll make this animated show and I’ll be back at Fox, this time as a sitcom voice.”
