Barstool is not the same company it was ten years ago. That is apparent both in the bottom line and as the people become available and seek better employment opportunities.
“Talent is seeking out Barstool,” Debra Duffy, a company spokeswoman told Front Office Sports, “and we have hired from Spotify, META, MLB, Fox Sports, ESPN, and many other competitive companies, spanning all divisions within Barstool.”
Josh Drew will start at Barstool on July 10. He spent the last eleven years at ESPN. His title at Barstool will be Senior Talent Producer, Sports.
Live sports have become a part of the Barstool portfolio in recent years. The company produces 100 live events per year including a college football bowl game, a college basketball invitational, and the FDNY vs NYPD hockey game.
Barstool is said to be on the lookout for what happens next at ESPN. With layoffs happening across the Walt Disney Company, Barstool sees this as an opportunity to add to its talent roster.
ESPN employees are not out of the woods just yet. Layoffs at the network are creeping along slowly. More talent are expected to part company with the network, and FOS reports that Barstool is interested to see who is on the market.
“As Barstool continues to be a dominant player in the media space, we have become an employer of choice in tech, media, sports, and entertainment,” Duffy added.
