Suspended Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams had video of him lighting fireworks at 1:15 in the morning the night of July 4 circulate on social media since the holiday, and 97.1 The Ticket host Jim Costa’s reporting of the video drew Pat McAfee’s attention.
Costa tweeted the video out saying that while he totally understands celebrating the holiday with fireworks, he thought it was probably better for Williams to leave the pyrotechnics to the professionals.
On Thursday, McAfee played the video and showed Costa’s tweet. McAfee joked on Costa a little bit for the reporting, but at first agreed that Williams took a bit of a risk doing what he did.
“I like that he’s having fun enjoying his life. But with that being said, these things are no joke,” McAfee said. “These things are the real deal.”
Pat said messing around with fireworks is dangerous, but Costa probably needed to lighten up some.
“So I appreciate Costa’s messaging, but with that being said, mind your f–king business!” McAfee said. “It’s the 4th of July, Jim. Jim, mind your own business, pal!”
“The guy’s not scared to gamble,” McAfee added, making a crack at Williams’ six-game suspension for sports betting. “He’s not scared to roll the dice a little bit. He’s not scared of it.”
Still, while plenty felt Costa was being too critical of Williams, it’s not wrong to point out that Williams was in a slightly dangerous position.
“It’s easy to say, ‘Hey Jim shut the f–k up,'” he said. “But also Jim has a point.”
