Dick Vitale is very familiar with cancer. That is why he is so sure he can beat it again.
ESPN’s legendary college basketball analyst revealed on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with cancer on his vocal cords. The prognosis is good, but it will require six weeks of radiation therapy. Vitale said on Twitter he plans “to fight like hell to be ready to call games when the college hoops season tips off in the fall.”
Vitale is as synonymous with college basketball at ESPN as any broadcaster at any network is with any sport. Plenty of fans are in his corner, saying prayers and expressing their support.
Those fans are not alone though. Countless colleagues also took to Twitter with words of encouragement for Dick Vitale and pleads to fans to send prayes, love, and good vibes.
Vitale also received a special message from The V Foundation, which was established by his late friend and ESPN colleague Jim Valvano. Vitale and ESPN have been enthusiastic champions of the organization, which supports cancer research since its founding in 1993.
