Mark Simone: Greg Gutfeld’s Holocaust Comments Were Misconstrued

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld was in hot water earlier this week after comments he made about the Holocaust. 710 WOR host Mark Simone defended Gutfled by saying he was misunderstood.

“Did you ever make [read] ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’? Vik Frankl talks about how you had to survive in a concentration camp by having skills. You had to be useful,” Gutfeld said during The Five on Fox News Monday. “Utility. Utility kept you alive.”

Gutfeld’s comments were widely condemned. The Five panelist Jessica Tarlov — who is Jewish — said she was uncomfortable by the remarks. Both The Auschwitz Memorial and the White House rebuked Gutfeld.

However, Simone argued that the comments were misinterpreted during The Mark Simone Show Wednesday.

“There’s a little bit of a controversy, unfair I think, to Gutfeld. When the Florida people tried to argue that slavery was good, that there was some good to slavery — that at least you’ll learn skills — that was the stupidest thing in the world,” said Simone. “And the moron DeSantis sort of doubled down on it with a ridiculous comment. ‘Well, you know, you could learn blacksmithing, and that would help you’, I mean, ridiculous, ridiculous, ridiculous comments. So, Gutfeld — I know what he was doing. He was just trying to point out how stupid those Florida comments were.

“He’s just trying to just exaggerate and prove how stupid the comments were. So he said, ‘It’s like saying Jews learn useful skills during the Holocaust’. Now, I guess you shouldn’t say that. It’s too touchy, weird, a comparison. So his motive was good there,” Simone continued. “He was trying to point out how ridiculous the defense of slavery was in Florida by this extreme example, but if Democrats saw it as an excuse to go after Gutfeld. All hell broke loose…Gutfeld’s heart was in the right place. Maybe it was a clumsy way to say it, but the point he made was good and what he meant was valid. Good point.”
