Boomer Esiason is a big name in sports radio. It’s rare that WFAN can find a name just as big to fill-in for him when he takes time off. Next week though, it just might happen.
Friday morning, Gregg Giannotti announced that Esiason is off next week. At the end of the week, Stugotz of The Dan Le Batard Show will be in studio as the guest co-host.
“He’s a New Yorker, he loves WFAN, he loves us,” Giannotti told his partner. “He wishes you were here too. He’s always been begging to come in with the both of us and I said, ‘It’s not gonna happen with the way that you suck the oxygen out of the room.’ I said, maybe when one of us is off, so he’s gonna come in Thursday and Friday.”
This is a plan that has been in the making for a while. Giannotti and Stugotz first discussed doing shows together on WFAN in 2021.
Stugotz has never made his love of WFAN a secret. He claims he is the reason that ESPN even thought to do a 30 for 30 about Mike & the Mad Dog. According to Giannotti, he has even said in the past that he would be willing to work at WFAN for free.
