Canty & Carlin host Chris Carlin filled in hosting Greeny last week on ESPN Radio, and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo joined the show for a brief reunion as former WFAN staffers.
Carlin was a longtime producer for Mike & The Mad Dog and asked Russo if he had any favorite stories from their time together.
The story that came to Mad Dog’s mind was when Carlin traveled with he and Mike Francesa from the New York Yankees spring training in Tampa to Mets camp in Port St. Lucie and the trio stopped at a steakhouse in Kissimmee.
“I swear to God this is true, and this was long before Chris was married,” Russo said. “The lady who served us had her eyes on Carly, and she brought the steak out and you could tell she wanted to make conversation. And she forgot to bring the french fries, and Carly had his milkshake and his steak and he didn’t have his fries. And after a couple minutes, under his breath he basically shouted ‘Shut the blank up and bring me my fries.'”
Mad Dog said it was the funniest thing he had ever heard Carlin say. But that was just the first thing that popped in his head.
“Either that or the three Coronas and a cheeseburger at the Hyatt in Tampa when you told me you wanted to go on a diet,” Russo added. “It was either one or the other.”
Carlin laughed but did have one small correction for Mad Dog’s steakhouse story.
“It was garlic bread, not fries,” Carlin said with a smile. “Thank you Christopher.”
