Boomer Esiason made his return to the WFAN airwaves on Monday morning after taking a 10-day golf trip, over which various hosts filled in for him on WFAN’s morning program, Boomer & Gio. During the final two days of his absence last week, Miami sports radio icon and co-host of The Dan Le Batard Show, Jon “Stugotz” Weiner joined Giannotti on the airwaves, fulfilling a lifelong mission to host a show on WFAN. Weiner, a Port Washington area native, grew up listening to the outlet and quickly developed an infatuation for the sports media institution. Additionally, he is a fan of Giannotti’s work and thoroughly enjoyed his time hosting alongside him last week.
Because of this, a Miami-based caller decided to send a warning to Esiason on the program Monday morning. During his time on the air, Eric told him to expect to hear more from Weiner, who has made no secret of wanting to do more work at the station and discuss the New York sports scene.
“By just putting his name in your phone and putting [in] his number, you have just given this man the ultimate power in your life,” Eric alerted Esiason. “You gave him a millimeter and that’s all it takes – he’s the ultimate salesman. That guy will sell you now and not leave you alone for the rest of your life.”
Weiner openly pleaded for a job at the station while on the air, claiming that he would be able to boost advertising on the airwaves. The assertion led Le Batard to question on his show why he decided to make those promises to the station, and it could be something addressed upon his return to Miami and the Meadowlark Media program. As it pertains to Esiason, the host assured the caller not to worry and that everything was under control.
“Just know this – I want you to go with a clear head today,” Esiason said. “I have his phone number, I did not put it in my phone yet and I have not sent him a text, nor did I call him, so he will never get my phone number. How about that?”
Just when Esiason thought he was in the clear, the caller informed him of the contrary and cautioned that there would be more to come.
“He has it already; [Stugotz] confirmed it on the air last week,” Eric said. “He confirmed it with Gio off air and Gio said, ‘Oh wow, you have his number; that is his number.’ [When] he got that confirmation from Gio, that man lit up with the biggest smile.”
“That’s a reason to change the number,” Esiason replied.
