Houston Nutt spent 19 years as a head coach in college football. He took the Razorbacks to two SEC Championship games during his tenure as head coach at Arkansas. He also lead Murray State, Boise State and Ole Miss before launching a broadcasting career.
On Thursday, Nutt took to X to announce that his broadcast career was coming to an end too.
“After 11 incredible years, I have decided to say goodbye to my CBS Sports team to spend more time being Grandpa (“Pappy”) and with my family,” he wrote.
Nutt joined the company in 2012. Initially, he was seen mainly on CBS Sports Network. He would make the occasional appearance on CBS’s Saturday studio show when the network was carrying two games instead of the usual one. In recent years, he has joined Adam Zucker and Brian Jones in the studio every Saturday as an analyst on the broadcast network’s pregame and halftime shows in addition to work for CBS Sports Network.
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to work alongside such a talented team,” he wrote on X. “I have greatly cherished my time at CBS Sports Network and all the announcers I was fortunate enough to sit alongside. Thank you for all the incredible memories, I will miss you all.”
It took a long time for Nutt to give up on searching for new head coaching jobs. He publicly expressed interest in openings at SMU, UT-San Antonio, and Wake Forest while working for CBS.
