The Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns held joint training camp practices earlier this week ahead of their Thursday night preseason game in Philadelphia, and it was a perfect opportunity for 92.3 The Fan host Nick Wilson to pick the brain of legendary Eagles play-by-play man Merrill Reese.
Reese joined Afternoon Drive on The Fan on Thursday, and Wilson couldn’t contain his excitement about getting to talk to a Philadelphia broadcasting legend.
“There are very few times you will ever hear me flat-out mark out and get excited for like a play-by-play guy,” Wilson said. “There’s one or two guys in town who have that effect on me.”
Reese has spent more than five decades behind the microphone calling Eagles games. He’s seen legends come and go and experienced all the highs and lows of the Eagles, including their Super Bowl victory and defeats.
Wilson said there’s just something different about Reese in his eyes.
“But Merrill Reese to me – there’s a Vin Scully thing to him,” he said. “He’s just a sweetheart.”
