Lee Fitting Out at ESPN

Lee Fitting is out at ESPN according to Outkick. It is a major change for the network with the college football season set to kick off later this week.

Fitting was ESPN’s go-to guy for football. His responsibilities included College GameDay, Monday Night Football, and the College Football Playoff. He also oversaw the SEC Network.

Dan Zaksheske of Outkick reports that it was Norby Williamson that informed ESPN staff that Fitting is no longer with the network. Williamson is scheduled to address ESPN employees one week from Tuesday. It is expected that he will discuss the network’s new structure for football then.

The timing of the announcement is unfortunate. Earlier on Monday, ESPN had announced its new plans for Monday Night Countdown following the departures of Suzy Kolber and Steve Young. It appears now that the new era will begin without the leader that helped put it together.

Lee Fitting rose through the ranks at ESPN. He began at the network in 1996 as part of its production assistant program.

Details of what led to the decision are not available at this time.
