An interview between CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins and Vivek Ramaswamy has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, with the Republican Presidential candidate claiming the situation proves media dishonesty.
A contentious back-and-forth between Collins and Ramaswamy took place on CNN Monday. Collins went through a line of questioning the 38-year-old Ramaswamy took issue with, before claiming that The Atlantic — where his quotes questioning “the truth” about 9/11 originated — was “playing the same game as CNN”.
Ramaswamy went on to claim the quote published by The Atlantic was “wrong”. He alleged that he asked for the audio of the clip to be published. The publication revealed the recording Tuesday, which proved the candidate had been quoted correctly and accurately.
During The Source Tuesday, Kaitlan Collins read a statement from the Ramaswamy campaign alleging that the recording actually proved his point.
“The audio clearly demonstrates that Vivek was taken badly out of context and even this small snippet proves that. We continue to encourage the Atlantic to release more of the recording, rather than their carefully selected snippet, so that full context and reality is exposed,” a statement from a campaign spokesperson read.
“I should note that spokesperson did not explain how he was supposedly taken out of context. The reality is that Vivek Ramaswamy is running to be President of the United States. He will be on that debate stage tomorrow night. And he says (the truth) is a central message to his campaign,” said Collins before playing a montage of Ramaswamy claiming his commitment is to “the truth”.
“Well, the truth is: he did say it,” continued Collins. “The quote was accurate and it is on tape. And yes, this is how the media works. You get quoted — the things you say — accurately.”
