CNN is reportedly planning to launch new original shows on the Max streaming service, with prominent anchors playing a role.
Jim Sciutto, Bianna Golodryga, Rahel Solomon, and Christiane Amanpour are among those the network has tasked with debuting new programs on the platform, per a report from Variety’s Brian Steinberg.
After being acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022, the fledgling CNN+ streaming service was shuttered by the company. However, with cord-cutting continuing, CNN’s in-home linear subscriber base is projected to fall to just over 66 million by the end of next year, which is a drop of 4 million from 2022.
The new original programs launched on Max won’t be the first CNN programs made available. While not exclusive to the streaming service, Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace and The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper have both been distributed on the cable network and the streaming platform. Additionally, original documentaries produced by the network are also available on the streamer.’
A 24-hour livestream is also being discussed on the streaming service, with the North American feed providing the bulk of coverage on the platform.
