Alabama fans are certainly happy to hear that Eli Gold will be back on the call of Crimson Tide football games in 2023. Following a battle with cancer though, the broadcaster is not ready to make a full-time return.
Gold is only scheduled to call home games in 2023. Chris Stewart will be the voice of the Tide when they are on the road this season.
Stewart handled all of Bama’s football play-by-play last year as Gold dealt with his health issues. He is also the regular play-by-play voice of Alabama basketball.
With the home/away split, Gold will call seven games while Stewart calls five. The home schedule includes most of the marquee opponents including Texas, Tennessee, and LSU. Stewart will call the annual Iron Bowl against Auburn.
Bama opens its 2023 season at home against Middle Tennessee with Gold on the call. Stewart will make his season debut in Tampa on September 16 when the Crimson Tide visit the South Florida Bulls.
Both men will work with Tyler Watts. The former Alabama quarterback replaces John Parker Wilson as the analyst. Wilson stepped down last season after five years on the job. Former Crimson Tide and Carolina Panthers linebacker Christian Miller will be the broadcast’s sideline reporter and analyst.
