Plenty of athletes and coaches day that sports radio effects them at all. Many will tell you they do not even listen. Bryce Harper is a little more honest than that. He is a regular WIP listener.
The Phillies star hit a home run Tuesday night against the Angels. After the game, he told the media that the second-inning blast was inspired by Chuck in Mt. Airy.
“I was driving in today and you know, I’m listening to WIP today, like I do a lot in the two o’clock hour. A guy named Chuck called in. He calls in a lot. It’s hilarious,” Harper told reporters after the game. “He was talking about our team, talking about me and stuff. I walked in the training room and I was like, ‘I’m going to go deep tonight for Chuck!’ That guy had me fired up man.”
Chuck called Marks & Reese that afternoon. While the bulk of his call was about Cowboys fans, he did close out by praising Harper.
“Bryce Harper, listen man, before I die I am going to shake that man’s hand one day. He’s the best ever,” Chuck said.
When Jon Marks reminded Chuck that they know Harper listens to the station on his drive to Citizens Bank Park, Chuck decided to address the star directly.
“Come meet me and come meet the people that love you, because you are the man and we go where Bryce Harper goes.”
The Phillies beat the Angels 12-7 on Tuesday night, marking the team’s 7th win of their current homestand, which concludes on Wednesday night.
With just 30 games left in the team’s regular season and Philadelphia leading the NL Wild Card Race, it’s safe to assume Phillies fans want Chuck calling to talk about Bryce Harper more often.
