A recent TikTok set the mind of 95.5 WSB afternoon host Eric Von Haessler ablaze with thoughts on how no one, whether it be radio hosts, content creators, or politicians, can ever admit they’re incorrect.

During The Von Haessler Doctrine, the host played a video of a content creator claiming that she was under the impression that The Price is Right host Bob Barker, who died Saturday at the age of 99, was already dead. However, she claimed that it was a Mandela Effect.

The Mandela Effect refers to a collection of widely held, completely false memories, which began when residents of South Africa claimed former President Nelson Mandela had died in the 1980s when he actually didn’t die until 2013. Some falsehoods include things like whether or not there is a hyphen in the brand name for KitKat, to movie quotes, and to other various pop culture tidbits.

“As the internet phenomenon goes on, we just have a bunch of dumb people who think they thought something and can’t admit that they were wrong. We can just say ‘Oh, it’s the Mandela Effect’. TikTok? I should just start calling it the authority,” Von Haessler joked before playing a clip of the video claiming that Barker had already died.

Eric Von Haessler then joked making outlandish, incorrect statements is a good way to grow interaction on social media.

“That’s a good social engagement,” he continued. “‘If you think — I don’t know. I don’t think that the sky is blue, but if you do leave, let me know in the comments’.”
