Fox News is steadying the ship after a turbulent summer of dips in the ratings. 710 WOR host Mark Simone believes there is still a bright future for the network.
During The Mark Simone Show Thursday, the host argued that Fox is seeing a ratings rebound after it fired Tucker Carlson in late April. He noted that the network has experience in weathering these situations.
“You got to remember they’ve done this before. Bill O’Reilly left and he was the highest-rated show. They recovered,” said Simone. “Remember Glenn Beck? He was the biggest thing there. They got rid of him. They recovered.”
Mr. New York then argued that Fox News has a juggernaut on its hands with The Five, and that it actually is smart to put resources behind a show with multiple co-hosts.
“The biggest show now is The Five. The Five is huge, and it’s a perfect setup. It’s five different hosts. So who cares if somebody leaves, you just get another one. It looks like Fox is back,” said Simone. “Everything is fine ratings-wise. In fact, they just had a 30-month winning streak. Excellent, excellent ratings.”
After lauding Newsmax for its recent run in ratings growth, Simone argued that MSNBC is also seeing success, but there should be an asterisk next to it.
“MSNBC will always have a good week if Trump is in trouble. With Trump getting indicted in Georgia, the mugshot, that was a big week for MSNBC. Problem is when all that dies down, MSNBC goes back to low ratings.”
