Change is afoot in Pittsburgh. After AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh was sold to Fenway Sports Group, the new owners decided that the Penguins’ TV broadcast needed a makeover.
Bob Errey and Steve Mears are out. Errey has been working as an analyst for the team on TV and radio since 1999. Mears came over as the TV play-by-play man in 2017.
“I loved my nights in Pittsburgh and in the booth,” Errey wrote in a letter to fans of the Penguins. “I will cherish the many incredible moments this seat has given me. It has brought me a special joy and excitement and I hope it did for you as well.”
The Athletic reports that Josh Getzoff is likely to move from radio to TV to fill the play-by-play role. No word yet on what happens to the analyst position. Phil Bourque will still be an analyst but may stay on radio as opposed to moving to TV.
Dan Potash, who serves as a reporter on the broadcast, confirmed that he remains employed by the team.
