An interview between CNN weekend host Michael Smerconish and former Chief Medical Adviser to the President Dr. Anthony Fauci went viral over the weekend. 93.1 WIBC host Tony Katz believes Smerconish deserves praise for the interaction.
During the interview, Smerconish asked Fauci about the perception that masks aren’t effective in limiting the spread of COVID-19. The doctor rebutted that by saying “there’s no doubt” that the majority of studies show a benefit for individuals to protect themselves from contracting or spreading the virus.
Smerconish then noted the findings from an Oxford epidemiologist who said “There is just no evidence” that masks “make any difference. Full stop.”
The clip went viral on social media, with Katz wondering why there was an uproar.
“What has everyone amazed here? Smerconish didn’t attack Fauci. He asked the question directly and earnestly. (That doesn’t happen enough on cable news),” Katz wrote in a post to X, formerly Twitter. “Good job, Michael Smerconish.”
