Boomer Esiason: Nate Burleson & J.J. Watt ‘Literally Could do Anything’

Expectations for JJ Watt on CBS are high. His NFL Today colleague Boomer Esiason says he has already been impressed by the show’s newest cast member.

Gregg Giannotti revealed that to Watt when he called into Boomer & Gio Friday morning on WFAN.

“We’re very excited,” Giannotti said. “Boomer called you ‘a natural,’ by the way, and he hates everybody.”

Watt demurred, saying that he is excited to get the show started, but admitted that he really doesn’t know what to expect from the first rehearsal with his new colleagues, which was scheduled for Friday.

After the future Hall of Fame said goodbye, Esiason explained why he is so optimistic about Watt, but about The NFL Today as a whole this season.

“Two naturals that I’ve sat with in my life, I mean, literally that could do anything was Nate Burleson and this guy,” he said. “He’s not going to be with us every week, is going to be with us every couple of weeks and then as we get to the playoffs, he’d be with us for that, but he’s a natural. Smart, he’s self-deprecating and, you know, of course he is good looking.”

That prompted Gio to suggest that Boomer Esiason is now the ugliest member of the CBS pregame cast.
