Kevin Clark: ‘I’ve Wanted to Work for ESPN Since I was 3’

After being at The Ringer since 2016, Kevin Clark is now hosting a podcast This Is Football for Omaha Productions and ESPN. It is a show that will allow Clark to continue what he likes best: tell stories.

Clark was a guest on the Sports Media with Richard Deitschpodcast this week and he talked a little bit about what the show was going to be and how he hopes it looks at least a little bit like what he did at The Ringer.

“The one thing I think we’ve had a lot of success with certainly at The Ringer over the past couple of years is people just love hearing guys tell stories or get very specific. We had a thing a couple of months ago at The Ringer where George Kittle is just talking about Kyle Shanahan calls plays that don’t work intentionally. That’s the kind of stuff that draws in new listeners, teaches people about football, it’s a jumping off point for a million think pieces. It rattles around the Internet.”

For Clark, going to Omaha Productions and ESPN is a move from one dream job to another and maybe the only way he was ever going to leave The Ringer.

“You are looking at reach and change of scenery, which is always good in a career I think. It was a job I had to take. I was very upfront and communicative with my former bosses at The Ringer. This is just an incredible opportunity to do a show three times a week with Omaha and ESPN’s reach.”

“I’ve wanted to work for ESPN frankly since I was 3 years old. That’s the dream…I’m a sports media dork. ESPN is the capital of sports media.”
