Dictionary.com recently announced it would add 500 words to its growing list. 95.5 WSB host Mark Arum says it is now his life’s goal to get a new word into the exhaustive list.
During The Mark Arum Show Friday, the Atlanta-based host joked that he has long hoped to make the Guinness Book of World Records. He shared that it was unlikely he’d accomplish that, so he’s turning his attention to a new goal.
“My new goal is to add a new word to dictionary.com by next year,” Arum said. “I created a new word. Actually, it’s a word my dad created. ‘Schmezball’. That’s the goal. Forget Guinness, that’s never gonna happen. Never ever.”
Arum joked that the word “schmezball” sounds like a Yiddish word. He then went on to share an anecdote about his brother’s best friend teaching a Jewish music student how to play guitar. The student said he’d never heard the word before.
“He calls my brother up and goes, ‘Hey I was teaching this Jewish kid. He didn’t know schmezball. He didn’t know anything!’ And my brother’s like ‘That’s not a real word. It’s my dad made that up.’ So make hashtag ‘Schmezball’ trend, alright?” Arum said. “That’s my goal.”
