After the cancellation of his national morning radio show with Keyshawn Johnson and Max Kellerman, Jay Williams’ future at ESPN has been in an ambiguous state. Williams frequently contributed to studio programming with the network since joining the “Worldwide Leader” in 2008, and will now be working in a bigger role, according to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post. The former professional basketball player and Duke Blue Devils standout will be joining the basketball version of College GameDay, working alongside Rece Davis, Jay Bilas and Seth Greenberg once conference play begins.
Williams recently revealed that he would be remaining at ESPN after there were unknowns about how much the network was interested in keeping him. As part of the new deal, he will also call select matchups throughout the college basketball season. Within his message, Williams hinted that there would be several announcements made pertaining to his future and building his own platform.
“I hope all of you guys are ready,” Williams said in a video posted to X, formerly known as Twitter. “Sit back, relax [and] get your popcorn ready because it’s about to get crackin’.”
In the past, Williams has collaborated with National Public Radio (NPR) to host The Limits podcast featuring guests such as Brian Flores, Megan Rapinoe and Magic Johnson. Additionally, he worked with Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman to create The Boardroom program on ESPN+. Having the perspective of a former athlete, Williams has shined a light on the trials and tribulations that teams endure on a daily basis and has consistently brought his opinions to various platforms.
