Minnesota Timberwolves Leaving WCCO for ‘Super Non-Traditional’ Radio Broadcast

What does the future hold for the Minnesota Timberwolves? It may be hard to know when it comes to the on-court product. The same is true for the radio broadcast right now. The team is parting company with WCCO.

“We appreciated our partnership with WCCO and the radio broadcast opportunities we were able to accomplish with them,” team spokeswoman Sara Perez wrote in a statement. “However, we are looking forward to announcing a new radio broadcast partnership in the weeks to come.”

The team’s COO Ryan Tanke says what comes next is “super non-traditional”. The broadcast partnership may not last long. He said the team is entering a “one-year trial”.

Brad Lane, program director of WCCO, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he does not know what the team’s plans are.

Since 2011, the Timberwolves have been partnered with WCCO. The station served as the flagship of the team’s 30-station network across Minnesota and the Dakotas.

An announcement should be coming soon. The team opens its regular season schedule against the Raptors in Toronto on October 25.
