NewsNation reporter Kellie Meyer entered the boxing ring Wednesday to raise money for Haymakers for Hope. On Thursday, she appeared on Morning in America to discuss the experience.
“Thank you guys for doing this this morning and your support throughout this entire summer,” Meyer said on the NewsNation morning show. “It’s been amazing. I’m feeling good. I’m feeling so grateful for all the support and a little jello-y in my arms right now.
“And watching this footage back for the first time, I’ve never thought I would do anything like this, you guys. So, to be out there, this is crazy to see. I just kind of blacked out and went for it and just gave it my all, and it was just an incredible experience.”
Meyer has raised over $10,000 to support the fight against multiple myeloma at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
So why did Meyer drop her reporter role for a quick second to become a boxer? Cancer hits home as Meyer’s stepfather, Tom Warmouth, has been battling multiple myeloma for 10 years.
Furthermore, this might not be the last time Meyer steps into the ring, noting that she’ll continue boxing despite the charity event being over.
