Vic Lombardi: ‘You Would Have to be Drunk’ to Talk Broncos Instead of Coach Prime

Deion Sanders has changed everything in Colorado. That was evident Monday morning when Vic Lombardi objected to opening his morning show on Altitude Sports Radio talking about the Broncos. He said that the Rocky Mountain Showdown between Colorado and Colorado State was the obvious place to start.

“Yeah, I attended both games. I wanted to get a sense of both games,” he said. “And I’m here to tell you, you would have to be mad, you would have to be drunk, and you would have to be so used to doing it, what? The way we always do it? To lead any show with the Broncos.”

Lombardi called Colorado’s double-overtime win one of the most exciting football games he has ever witnessed. Sure, history tells Denver sports radio listeners that the Broncos always come first in the town, but that has changed.

He used his wife, who he says is not a big football fan, as a barometer. She attended the college game with Vic and did not want to leave.

“I’m going to tell you something,” Lombardi said. “When you have that at your disposal, that kind of entertainment value, and we got plenty to talk about, why do we have to always talk about the same thing? Because what I saw unfold at Mile High yesterday was the same thing.”

Lombardi said that by contrast, even a wild Hail Mary was not enough to make you think anything new or interesting was happening with the Broncos. He would hope that more of his colleagues in local radio would take that into account when they are planning their shows on Monday.

“Everybody in town, if you listen to the radio stations today and listen to other shows even our our airwaves, listen to what their first words out of their mouths are. If they start with the Broncos today, barring some crazy news that happens. Why?”

Coach Prime and his team welcomed stars from across the worlds of acting, sports and hip hop to their sideline on Saturday. The Buffs dropped a spot to number 19 in the latest AP poll, but the excitement around the team is still at a fever pitch as the team prepares to host number ten Oregon on Saturday night.
