As the Chicago Bears get set to take on the Washington Commanders in Thursday Night Football , the expectations for the Bears aren’t exceedingly high. The Bears enter the Week 5 matchup with an 0-4 record on the season and have not won a football game in 346 days. Chicago enters the game as underdogs against Washington, who has lost its last two matchups and has a .500 record on the year. However, things might be better for 670 The Score host David Haugh if they drop another contest.
Last week against the Denver Broncos, the team almost snapped what has become a losing stretch that will go down in the history books. 670 The Score morning hosts Mike Mulligan and David Haugh saw glimmers of hope throughout the game that allowed them to portray the team in more of a positive light.
If the team wins Thursday night’s matchup, the conversation on Friday morning will sound a lot different and contain discussion Bears fans have been waiting to hear.
“Here’s the irony about tonight,” Haugh said. “There is very little expectation the Bears are going to win, but there is great expectation about what happens if they lose. We will talk probably more about things potentially if they lose than if they win. There’ll be more conversation.”
Mulligan and Haugh decided to open their program with a play on words on an enduring call in sports history, playing “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!” from Thursday Night Football voice Al Michaels calling the U.S.’s 1980 upset “Miracle on Ice” victory over the USSR.
“Do you believe in miracles!?,” Mulligan said. “Yeah, I don’t know.”
“If I believe in miracles, I’m a little concerned about the driver of that 20-year-old Mazda,” replied Haugh. “It might take a miracle, frankly, if the Bears are going to get it done in Washington. It might take a miracle for the Bears to win a game.”
The Bears have not won a game since October 24th of last year, when they beat the New England Patriots.
