WFNZ Continues Ratings Surge in Charlotte Summer Book

The summer ratings book is in for Charlotte, and WFNZ has reason to celebrate. The market’s sports leader saw massive year-to-year gains thanks to a strong showing across all dayparts.

Beginning with morning drive, Mac & Bone remained the station’s top-performing show, garnering a 3rd place finish with an 8.3 share. That number was more than double the 4.1 share it saw during the same time period a year ago. It was also nearly a full point higher than Chris McClain and Travis “T-Bone” Hancock’s spring book, which produced a 7.4 share.

In middays, WFNZ splits its time slot between Charlotte Sports Today (10 AM-12 PM) with Jeff Rickard and Colin Hoggard, and Wes & Walker (12-3 PM) featuring Walker Mehl and Wes Bryant. Rickard and Hoggard finished the quarter in 3rd with an 8.9 share. Wes and Walker came in 4th during their slot with a 6.4 share. The combined midday daypart of 10a-3p has grown from a 3.9, 8th place ranking last year to a 7.4, 4th place finish in 2023.

The largest growth for the station this quarter came from The Kyle Bailey Show. The afternoon program finished the quarter ranked 5th with a 6.9 share. That was more than four times higher than the same period last year when the show was 16th with a 1.7 share. Bailey’s 6.9 share is also up from a 5.8 share during the spring.

Even the evening time slot this quarter produced results for WFNZ. The station finished 3rd M-F from 7p-12a with a 7.1 share. That was a significant jump from 18th and a 0.7 during the same period in 2022.

Rounding things out with a look at weekday prime (M-F 6a-7p), WFNZ was 3rd for the quarter with a 7.7 share. For the full week, the brand was 4th with a 6.2 share.

WFNZ has continued enjoying major growth since abandoning the AM band. The station had been heard for decades on 610 AM before moving exclusively to 92.7 FM in September 2022.

Ratings information for FOX Sports Radio Charlotte and 730 The Game was unavailable this quarter.
