Load management is a hot-button topic in the NBA. For AM 570 LA Sports hosts Matt ‘Money’ Smith and Petros Papadakis, taking time off isn’t an option.
During Petros and Money Tuesday, the pair discussed load management before joking that they could never be persuaded to take scheduled days off.
“For the players, they’re being told they get to rest. So I guess if your boss comes to you and says ‘Listen guys, we’ll pay you full freight. But I think you’re gonna be more effective if I give you every Wednesday off and every Wednesday and Thursday off moving forward’,” Smith chuckled.
“‘Pan Nose and the Fishbowl Head are gonna take your show over and then they’re gonna do their show on FOX Sports Radio’,” Papadakis sarcastically replied. “They’re gonna double up now.”
“Some people, perhaps (Fred Roggin and Rodney Peete) would welcome that. They would say ‘That’s great, boss. Happy to be sitting on the sidelines’. But then there’s some that are competitive, like The Petros & Money Show. We want to be on the air every day,” Smith joked. “We have a thirst for airtime. And a thirst to deliver what we think about things in the world every single day. Hey, here’s my opinion on that. I know you wanna hear about what I have to say about this! ‘Sweetheart, I would love to take the day off, but people want to know what I think.”
“‘People need to know what I think about the future of the Lakers and the Clippers’,” Petros continued sarcastically. “That being said, Matt, we do feel as if we have an obligation to our audience.”
“We do like to work, and there are NBA players that like to work as well,” Smith surmised.
“It beats sitting there downstairs smoking weed and staring at my lizard,” Papadakis concluded. “That gets a little old.”
The pair laughed throughout the discussion, noting the absurdity of the discussion as only the two Los Angeles hosts could.
